Coppins Monroe has extensive experience providing advice and counsel and representing local governments on issues of all kinds. Since 1992, Coppins Monroe has represented cities, counties, school boards, sheriff’s departments, police departments, jails, and other governmental entities.

By virtue of their extensive governmental work, our attorneys have become leaders in the often-complex areas of governmental sovereign immunity, qualified immunity, government in the sunshine, public records laws, ethics investigations, and government regulation.

We are well experienced in the defense of local governments in Section 1983 civil rights actions, First Amendment actions, and actions for false arrest, excessive force, malicious prosecution, unlawful takings, equal protection, due process and many other constitutional and federal statutory claims.

We have provided years of representation of governmental entities in defense of employment to litigation claims in both federal and state court brought under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1965, the American’s with Disabilities Act (“ADA”), The Age Discrimination in Employment Act (“ADEA”), the Family Medical Leave Act (“FMLA”), the Florida Civil Rights Act, Chapter 760, Florida Statutes, and sections 42 U.S.C. § 1981, 1983, and 1985 (including race and gender discrimination as well as First Amendment retaliation and other claims), as well as retaliation claims brought under Florida’s public and private sector Whistle-blower Protection acts, §§ 112.3187, and 448.102, et. seq., Florida Statutes, and other numerous statutes prohibiting discrimination and retaliation based on race, age, gender, disability, marital status, and protected activities of all kinds. We have represented governmental clients in severance and non-compete agreements and many other employment related issues.

The firm’s immersion in governmental representation means that all lawyers, paralegals, and staff at Coppins Monroe have significant experience with the unique issues facing governmental entities. Coppins Monroe is well suited and positioned to assist you with all of your local government legal needs.
